Plans to roll-out home information packs (Hips) to cover smaller properties could push home ownership further out of the reach of struggling first-time buyers, critics of the scheme warned today.
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) said there could be a sharp fall in the number of one- and two-bedroom homes put up for sale if the government goes ahead with plans to extend the controversial packs to include such properties.

Nine out of 10 house buyers are ignoring the Government's Home Information Packs when they are shown properties for sale.
A survey of prospective buyers at 230 estate agencies found that only 10 per cent of them asked to see the HIP for a property in which they expressed an interest.

Like lunches there is no such thing as a free HIP. Some Estate agents are offering free home information pack but often they will simply increase their commission to pay for the HIP or make you agree to a lengthy tie in. You are much better off sourcing your own HIP and negotiating a lower commission.
