Ministers have come under fire from the House of Lords after bringing in Home Information Packs (HIPs) for all properties last Friday.
The House of Lords select committee on HIPs, led by the Labour peer Lord Filkin, criticised the Government for breaking a promise not to roll out HIPs before scheme trial results had been published.

Plans to roll-out home information packs (Hips) to cover smaller properties could push home ownership further out of the reach of struggling first-time buyers, critics of the scheme warned today.

Nine out of 10 house buyers are ignoring the Government's Home Information Packs when they are shown properties for sale.

Like lunches there is no such thing as a free HIP. Some Estate agents are offering free home information pack but often they will simply increase their commission to pay for the HIP or make you agree to a lengthy tie in. You are much better off sourcing your own HIP and negotiating a lower commission.
